City dwellers living near parks and greenery are less depressed than urbanites with less or no access to such amenities, according to a study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. The study showed 44 per cent fewer incidences of anxiety disorders or depression in people living in ‘greened’ urban areas. Possible explanations include improved air quality, opportunities for relaxation and socialising, and an incentive to exercise.
