‘I think that Emma Munro’s client column demonstrates that far more goes on in therapy than we therapists are aware of…’ I lost the rest of Isabel Gibbard’s sentence, let alone letter, shuddering at the implied ‘us’ and ‘them’ in the words ‘we therapists’. Never was the case so strongly presented for in-depth therapy as an integral part of training, and in addition a return to therapy as part of continued CPD to address any illusion of ‘us’ and ‘them’ – possibly the most potentially dangerous belief a therapist can bring to a therapeutic relationship.
