  • To clarify, course accreditation criteria does not vary according to theoretical orientation. The requirement for all courses regardless of theoretical orientation is that they meet the self development criterion of the accreditation of training courses criteria that is:

    Courses should
    C2.1  provide regular and systematic opportunities for self awareness which are congruent with the course's core theoretical model

    C2.2  requires that students gain experience of being in the clients role (beyond that which is created in skills training and role plays). Students may be members of a Personal Development Group, undertake personal therapy/counseling or be engaged in co-counselling.

    Some courses will require mandatory personal therapy for the duration of the course in order to be congruent with the core theoretical model.

    Experience in personal therapy or in a personal development group is also important as a means of addressing and resolving conscious and unconscious material/conflicts stirred up by the experience of working with clients or by the training process itself. It contributes therefore, to the safety of client work as well as to the wellbeing of students.
